Sergio Reguilon sends message to David de Gea as the pair meet up amid search for new clubs

Former Manchester United stars David de Gea and Sergio Reguilon have been spotted together off the football pitch.

The two Spaniards never actually managed to play a game together at Manchester United. Sergio Reguilon was brought in on loan during Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge at Old Trafford, which was also the season club legend David de Gea was shunned by the manager in favour of bringing in Andre Onana.

Nevertheless, the two have shared the same pitch before. They’ve played twice on the same side for the Spanish national team.

But it appears that despite having little time together as teammates, they’re good friends in their free time. They tried their hat at a different sport altogether on Saturday.

Sergio Reguilon and David de Gea take to the tennis courts

The Spaniards, having both not been selected to feature for their country in Euro 2024, were enjoying some downtime in their home country – playing some tennis.

It appears after some difficult individual seasons for the pair for different reasons, two of the men Ten Hag axed as Manchester United manager have decided to take on a new sport altogether in their downtime.

De Gea, 33, has been without a club since the Red Devils let him go, whereas Reguilon, 27, was not kept on by United following a loan move at the beginning of the 23/24 campaign.

The pair will have to assess their options heading into the new season, with both likely hunting for new clubs.

What did Sergio Reguilon’s message say to David de Gea?

Reguilon’s photo was accompanied by a message addressed to one of Manchester United’s greatest ever shot-stoppers, which read: ‘Great tournament day. Thanks, David de Gea will see you soon my friend.’

Since departing Brentford, Tottenham have not yet made a decision on Reguilon, but the more than likely outcome is that he’ll depart. As for De Gea, things have also been very silent on his end for a good while now.

Where the pair end up is anyone’s guess, but they are both talented players with a lot left to give on the pitch.
