Granit Xhaka sends three-word message to £45m Arsenal star who was snubbed by his country

Granit Xhaka appears to have now sent a message of support to an Arsenal player who has endured a tough few months or so.

Right now Mikel Arteta will be watching several of his stars at Euro 2024 and Copa America this summer.

After a gruelling title-race with Manchester City, many of Arsenal’s players haven’t been afforded a rest, rather they are now pushing for silverware with their national teams.

Arsenal have 11 players who are already well into their Euro 2024 campaigns and two ready to start at Copa America.

Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli will both be representing Brazil when their tournament kicks off against Costa Rica on June 25.

Of course, it was a surprise when Gabriel Jesus, who is now something of a senior figure for club and country, was omitted from the Brazil squad last month.

Jesus has 64 caps and 19 goals for his country, but was deemed surplus to requirements by Brazil.

And in a summer in which Arsenal would reportedly sell Jesus for the right price, it must be a difficult time for the striker.

Of course, given that Jesus has always appeared such a determined and professional character, Arsenal fans will be expecting their £45m-signing to bounce back.

And despite being on his summer holidays right now, Jesus has just uploaded an Instagram post of him working hard in the sun, readying himself for the coming season.

And without reading too much into the post, it would appear that Jesus is declaring himself ready, perhaps even blocking out all of the noise.

Jesus’ former Arsenal teammate, Xhaka, who some supporters still wish had never left the Emirates Stadium, shared a message of support on the post saying ‘What a player’, along with two emojis.

And again, whilst it’s all very open to interpretation, perhaps that is Xhaka publicly sending his own reminder of how good Jesus really is.

Selling Jesus would be a risk for Arteta this summer

Whilst Kai Havertz has deservedly usurped Jesus as Arsenal’s starting striker, Arteta might still think twice about selling Jesus this summer.

The Brazilian was a catalyst for Arsenal’s significant improvement in 2022/23, signing alongside Oleksandr Zinchenko.

And whilst it does seem as if Arsenal’s project has progressed beyond Zinchenko’s incomplete skill set, Jesus is still among the league’s best.

Were Arsenal not to sign a striker, Jesus would obviously stay in north London, and could still be crucial to any title-winning season.

As well as providing competition for Havertz centrally, Jesus can also offer Arteta a way to rest Bukayo Saka on the right, a role Jesus often played for Pep Guardiola.

Of course, to fulfil such a role, Jesus will need to dramatically improve his injury record.
