'Here we go confirmed': Fabrizio Romano has just confirmed £37.5m Aston Villa transfer

Aston Villa have made a big signing ahead of their Champions League campaign next season.

The Villans are making a number of moves in the market before the end of June as they appear to look keen to avoid any issues with PSR.

This week has seen a number of deals done, with Lewis Dobbin arriving from Everton and Tim Iroegbunam going the other way.

Likewise, Villa are also expected to sign Ross Barkley from Luton, while they have also been trying to wrap up a deal for Chelsea left-back, Ian Maatsen.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, that deal for Maatsen is as good as done.

Aston Villa to complete deal to sign Ian Maatsen

Taking to X to provide the update, journalist Romano has confirmed that the deal to bring Maatsen to Villa Park is now done.

Villa will pay Chelsea around £37.5m to sign the Dutch full-back, who is currently away at the Euros with the Netherlands.

Maatsen will bring Champions League experience to Villa, having enjoyed a superb season with Borussia Dortmund last year.

Maatsen is a quality addition for Villa ahead of European football

While the way Villa are going about their business seems a bit odd, there’s no question that Ian Maatsen is a fine signing.

Unai Emery wanted the club to go out and get players who can hit the ground running from the off and in Maatsen, they have a player who has proven himself already.

Key, though, is Maatsen is young enough to go on and become even better and working under Emery, where so many have improved, should suit him.

Villa, then, despite the shenanigans with PSR obviously on display here, are getting themselves a player who could well be a first-team regular for the next decade and beyond.
