'Willing to sell': Man City given boost over £325k-a-week target as journalist offers transfer update

A transfer target for Manchester City is currently ‘unlikely’ to extend with his club, who are willing to sell him in this window.

City have been quiet in the transfer window so far, with no major incoming or outgoings.

Brazilian winger Savio is expected to be confirmed soon after an agreement was reached earlier this year to sign him.

But there hasn’t been much activity up to now. But the Euros are on, which potentially slows things down for clubs, and the Copa America has also now just started.

One player City have been linked with for a number of months is Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

Today, a couple of new claims have been made about the 29-year-old.

As things currently stand, Kimmich only has one year remaining on his contract at Bayern.

So this has placed clubs on red alert, given the player’s quality and versatility. Kimmich has been a top player for many years over in Germany.

So snagging him in a cut-price deal or on a free is a tantalising prospect.

City are in the picture to sign him, and journalist Florian Plettenberg has today provided an update on social media.

He wrote on X: “A separation between FC Bayern and Joshua #Kimmich now or next summer is becoming increasingly likely. It is a scenario that both sides are open to!

“It’s currently unlikely that the 29 y/o will extend beyond 2025

“Kimmich would be ready to go into the final year of his contract and leave on a free transfer in 2025. Therefore, Bayern are willing to sell him this transfer window with suitable offers.

“Concrete talks with Kimmich will take place after the Euros. Still a top player and one of the captains of Germany.”

Previously, Plettenberg has reported that City are in the hunt for the £325,000-a-week ace, along with Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Kimmich would be an amazing signing by City

City should take real encouragement from this update from Plettenberg.

It does not sound like Kimmich is likely to extend and that means there’s a real chance to get him at a decent price in this window. Because Bayern would likely be loathed to lose him on a free.

He would be a fantastic signing for City.

We know that Pep Guardiola doesn’t very often raid his former clubs for players. But he ought to do it here with Kimmich, because as he’s showing at the Euros, he is still a top-class player.

Kimmich has the technicality and versatility that Pep values so highly, and would be such a smart addition to the squad. He could be amazing alongside Rodri, or as cover for him, or as an alternative to Kyle Walker at right-back.
