One of South Carolina’s key verbal commitments was on campus over the weekend to make his official visit to Columbia.
Matoaca (Virginia) defensive lineman Caleb Williams said that things went “smooth” during his time on campus from Friday until Sunday.

“The teammates and how they bonded with each other, how they bonded with their teams.”
Williams spent the most time during his visit with South Carolina defenders Ronnie Porter and Rondarius Porter.
He also received a clear message from members of the Gamecock football staff during his talks with Shane Beamer, Clayton White, and future position coach Travian Robertson.
“Believe and trust,” relayed Williams. “Everybody might be trying to do some homework and stuff, just trust and believe what they’ve got going on to lead you the right way.”
Williams gave an update on his current height and weight, saying that he measured in at 6-foot-5 and 273 pounds during his official visit. He also got a better sense of how he may be used in the Gamecocks’ defensive in the future.
“My size and my strength and my athleticism, they just want me to do what I do at the high school right now and just do it here,” he explained. “He told me they want to play at like a three-tech. They told me that I would probably be at, like, 290 (pounds).”
In-state program Virginia Tech has been making a run at trying to flip Williams.
How solid is his commitment to South Carolina?
“One thousand percent,” Williams said.
With his senior high school football season right around the corner, Williams has a simple goal for finishing up his career at that level.
“Get bigger, stronger, faster,” he said.
