Offensive tweak involving Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark paying dividends for Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever are on a four-game winning streak after a tough start to the season and the drafting of superstar Caitlin Clark is now beginning to pay off for the team.

It took a little while for the team to get comfortable, but one key change has made all the difference of late.

“Big key to this four-game win streak is Aliyah Boston,” reported ESPN’s Holly Rowe on the air of a game between the Fever and the Chicago Sky on Sunday afternoon. “Aliyah Boston in those four wins 19 points, 11 rebounds. I talked to her before this game about why. She said I just have had to build some confidence. It was hard at the beginning of the season, a lot of new pieces.”

Boston has long been a star in her own right, and she’s got a little bit more WNBA experience than Caitlin Clark at this point. While the rookie has been a key piece, Boston is the heart and soul of the team.

When she gets going in the paint she’s virtually unstoppable. Having Clark around the perimeter to stretch out the defense and create more space has been absolutely monumental.

Caitlin Clark showed off that shooting touch early in a game against the Sky — and arch-rival Angel Reese — scoring eight points in the first quarter and knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. That’s exactly how the Fever have drawn it up.

“As they have integrated Caitlin Clark into this lineup they have had to reinforce for the team again that they are going to be an inside-out team,” Rowe said. “That means more post touches, getting Aliyah Boston the ball, letting her read and pass out of situations, and Aliyah has rolled with that in the four-game win streak.”

In the first quarter against Chicago, Indiana trailed 28-26 and will have work to do to keep the winning streak alive.

Boston, surprisingly, wasn’t terribly involved. She had no points in the first quarter, while tallying one rebound and three assists.
