One clip that has gone viral on social media in the wake of his passing is an emotional segment taken from his 2017 episode of “60 minutes with”, hosted by Anderson Cooper. In the clip, Sutherland opens up on a heartbreaking conversation he had with his mother at a young age.

The actor recalled how he ‘hid’ in his room for ‘at least a day’ after his mom told him ‘your face has character Donald’ in response to him asking if he was ‘good-looking’.

Getting evidently more and more emotional in the clip, interviewer Anderson asked if the comment made by his mom had stayed with him over the years. The movie icon responded, ‘Not really…only for the last 66 or 67 years’. He went on to explain that it’s “not easy to know that you’re an ugly man in the business I’m in”.

When quizzed if ugly was the term he would use to describe himself, Sutherland responded “unattractive of the gentler way of putting it”.

The comments on the clip were flooded with fans expressing how attractive and handsome the celebrity was both inside and out, along with them sharing their sadness over the news of his passing.

While the words that his mother said to him may have stuck to him personally, he never let it stop him in his hugely successful career.

Labelled as ‘one of the greatest actors’, he has starred in over 190 movies during his 60 years in the business, most notably Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, Mash, and more recently his iconic role as President Snow in The Hunger Games franchise. Some fans only just realized Sutherland was also in an ‘iconic’ scene in The Simpsons following his death.

He may have carried that conversation with him throughout his life, but to the rest of the world he was viewed as an incredibly beautiful and gifted man, who will be greatly missed by everyone.
