Dutch expert explains what he’s hearing about Man Utd target Joshua Zirkzee in Netherlands training

Joshua Zirkzee was a late call-up into the Netherlands international squad to fill a spot vacated by injury.

The Bologna striker was already facing a big summer to decide his future, amid transferinterest from both Manchester United and AC Milan.

Currently at Euro 2024, through the Netherlands’ opening two games, Joshua Zirkzee is yet to play a single minute.

If they choose to use him, Zirkzee is their ultimate wildcard, with no senior international appearances to his name at all.

How Joshua Zirkzee is faring with Netherlands

The Netherlands have been starting Memphis Depay in attack, and using another former United striker Wout Weghorst as an impact substitute.

Brian Brobbey is also an option, with Zirkzee currently the fourth choice option for manager Ronald Koeman to turn to.

However, with his late arrival in camp, Zirkzee has not gone unnoticed, despite his lack of game time.

Dutch journalist Jeroen Stekelenburg is quoted via Voetbal Primeur, talking up the Manchester United transfer target.

He said: “I sometimes speak to someone who has seen an entire training session. You can indeed hear from the group itself, and I think that a starting place is far away, but that he really makes an impression during the training.”

He was also praised by former Premier League striker Pierre van Hooijdonk, who labelled Zirkzee, ‘one of the greatest talents in Serie A’.

He added that he has heard about interest from AC Milan, before adding of the forward, “the quality is simply top level.”

Zirkzee release clause active from July 1

Joshua Zirkzee’s release clause stands at £34 million and becomes active from July 1. The Telegraph report United are preparing to pay it.

United will then have to find an agreement with Zirkzee and his advisors, but at this time, the striker will still likely be away at Euro 2024.

Netherlands have two points from their opening two games and are set to reach the knockout stages.

Zirkzee will be pushing to try and get into the team and extend his team’s stay at the tournament as long as possible, regardless of his club future.
