Report: Newcastle staff think they are now very close to selling 'dangerous' player for £25m

Newcastle United could be close to securing their first sale of the summer as Eddie Howe goes about revamping his squad.

The Magpies look set for a busy transfer window and have wasted no time identifying targets to strengthen Eddie Howe’s side.

Lloyd Kelly has already arrived on a free transfer after his contract expired at Bournemouth while Newcastle are confident over a deal to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Wolves skipper Max Kilman has also emerged as a target for Howe but Newcastle will be mindful of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline on June 30.

It’s no secret that the Magpies reportedly need to raise funds to stay on the right side of PSR and according to The Athletic, they are confident they are close to selling one player.

Newcastle believe they are close to Yankuba Minteh sale

Yankuba Minteh looks set to head out the door at St James’ Park this summer after a brilliant loan spell with Feyenoord last term.

Minteh is receiving strong interest from Everton while Ligue 1 giants Lyon are also said to be willing to meet his asking price.

And The Athletic reports that Newcastle believe they are close to offloading the 19-year-old for a fee worth £25 million or more.

It’s claimed that Minteh has already agreed personal terms with an unnamed club and is open to a summer exit, despite his desire to play Premier League football.

Minteh would have plenty to offer at Newcastle

Newcastle snapped up Minteh from Danish outfit Odense BK last summer and his loan spell at Feyenoord shows he has a bright future ahead of him.

The Gambian international registered 17 goal involvements in 37 appearances in the Netherlands and was lauded as an ‘extremely dangerous’ winger.

Newcastle aren’t exactly blessed with a wealth of options on the right-hand side and Miguel Almiron was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in January.

Minteh would provide Howe with an exciting option on that side but if reports are true that Newcastle need to raise funds ahead of June 30, a sale may be necessary.
