Report: West Ham told to pay £21-25 million for left-back after meeting player's agent

West Ham United seem to be intent on signing a top-class left back in the summer transfer window.

Some might think that left-back is not really a position where West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui needs to strengthen.

I strongly disagree though. Emerson Palmieri is being heavily linked with a return to Italy but even if he remains at the London Stadium, he needs more quality competition and cover.

In addition to that, the Italian will be 30 in August. The Hammers really are crying out for a young, energetic, powerful and pacy left-back to take us to the next level.

The same can be said for the right-back position, but that chat is for another time.

Right now, strengthening the left-back department should be a key priority for Lopetegui as far as I’m concerned, whether Emerson stays or leaves.

And it seems like there is someone out there who the West Ham boss has his eye on…

West Ham told to pay £21-25 million to secure deal for left-back

Lopetegui and his parter in crime Tim Steidten are men possessed this summer, as they embark on a big squad overhaul.

The need for the signings of a new striker and a centre-back are obvious to see, but the left-back position cannot afford to be overlooked.

As mentioned earlier, Emerson needs much more top quality competition. If the Italian misses it a game it means Aaron Cresswell has to play – someone who was finished at the highest level a year ago!

Fortunately, it seems like Lopetegui has an exciting plan in mind.

According to a report from Area Napoli, top brass from West Ham have held meetings with the agents of Jayden Oosterwolde.

And Fenerbahce are allegedly demanding around £21-25 million for the Dutch full-back.

The Hammers have apparently already asked the 23-year-old’s representatives to send them clips of their client in action for Fenerbahce.

I think he’d be a superb signing for us.

The Dutchman has unbelievable pace, and is ideally suited to playing in the left wing-back role.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Oosterwolde is an incredibly physically robust defender, and he’s ideally suited to the Premier League.

In 27 Super Lig outings for Fenerbahce last season, he averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.3 successful aerial duels and 2.1 clearances per game (Who Scored).

For around £21-25 million, I think the Dutch left-back would be the ideal addition to Lopetegui’s ranks at West Ham this summer.

I really hope we manage to get it done.
