Russia launched new attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure overnight on June 20, damaging energy facilities in four oblasts. In Vinnytsia Oblast, a critical infrastructure facility was hit. Russia also attacked a thermal power plant, injuring three energy workers and causing significant damage to the equipment.

Ukraine's energy system is expected to worsen in the coming weeks. The outages will be more extensive from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. compared to other times of the day, and this will continue approximately until the end of July, said Ukrenergo Chair, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.

Initially, high-rise buildings on the same lines as hospitals and other critical facilities were not subject to outages. However, as of June 18, the number of such buildings in Kyiv has decreased threefold. In October 2022, there were 1,497 such buildings, accounting for 12% of the total. Now there are only 510, or 4%.

The situation is quite dire, said Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center, who rates the state of Ukraine's energy system at three out of 12. He estimates it will take about two years to restore Ukraine's energy system, and unavoidable outages are expected in the next two winters. By winter, Ukraine will be able to restore only 200-250 MW, or 7% of the required 3.5 GW of electricity generation.
