Sunshine awaits racegoers at Newbury’s Midsummer Raceday on Tuesday

Flat racing returns to Newbury on Tuesday with the Midsummer Raceday, as punters are presented with a seven-race card and plenty to enjoy.

Opening proceedings is an apprentice handicap at 4:22 over a mile and three furlongs. Celebrating Ethel is well liked here, trained by Tony Carroll, whilst previous Newbury winner Hot Team also stands a chance.

Race two sees 12 runners take on a six furlong novice stakes at 4:55. Packed with newcomers, the Warren Greatrex-trained Dear Cat can build on a promising fifth of 13 on debut at Goodwood here with top jockey Rossa Ryan on board, while Dolly’s Delight should be bang in there as well with William Buick on board for trainer Michael Bell.

The third sees a £446,250 filly in Flaming Stone, looking to follow up an encouraging showing at Newmarket last month in the novice stakes at 5:30.

6:05 sees race four, a 1m4f handicap which should be a straight shootout between Marhaba Million and Eben Zabeel. Both are handicapping for the first time, whilst the latter had an unlucky run at Salisbury last time out but performed well.

The 6:40 sees Daring Legend the clear favourite, with some good all-weather form under his belt for trainer Mick Appleby including a good sixth at Ascot in a handicap not long ago.

7:15 sees 13 runners in another handicap. Ian Williams-trained Yantarni is ridden by William Buick, looking for a third handicap win in a row after two victories at Lingfield.

The final race at 7:50 sees Chasseral favoured, who showed positive signs at Windsor last time out.
