How Adidas tried to help ‘special’ Arsenal player after picking up ‘nasty’ injury last season

Adidas reportedly tried to assist on Arsenal player last season through an injury during the run-in for the Premier League title.

The Gunners were unusually lucky this year when it came to injuries, with Jurrien Timber the only notable player to miss an extended period of time having torn his ACL in the first game of the season against Nottingham Forest.

As a result, Arsenal pushed Manchester City further than ever, with the likes of William Saliba playing every minute of Premier League action, as the north London side fell just short of Pep Guardiola for the Premier League title.

And Adidas seemingly aided in trying to get one player fit for the final games of the season.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli supplied with special boot from Adidas

According to the Athletic, Adidas staff met with Arsenal to assess Gabriel Martinelli after the Brazilian winger suffered a ‘nasty’ injury in the Gunners’ 6-0 win away to Sheffield United in March.

Martinelli suffered a deep cut to the heel that kept the forward out at a crucial period in Arsenal’s season, with the 23-year-old rushed back from the injury which ultimately led to the forward being dropped for the final matches of the season.

With Leandro Trossard also emerging as Arsenal’s star attacker in the run-in, a lot of elements came together to ensure Martinelli endured a poor end to the year, with many fans disappointed how the attacker performed when compared to the previous season.

However, with the Copa America now here, Martinelli has a chance to add some more credit into the bank over his Arsenal future, with the forward set for a big summer for both club and country.

Martinelli will want to prove his worth next season with the Gunners

After a fantastic 22/23 season, few would have expected Martinelli to be as poor as he was this year, with the 23-year-old looking like a shadow of his former self after such a brilliant campaign.

Yet with a summer consisting of the Copa America and a pre-season tour to the United States, Martinelli is in the prime position to prove his worth to Arsenal for the upcoming campaign.

Indeed, Martinelli is one of the most talented players in the Arsenal squad, with Gabriel Jesus labelling his fellow countryman as ‘special’, and the Brazilian will want to unleash that side for good in the new season.
