King Charles' sister rushed to hospital with concussion after 'incident at home'

King Charles’ sister, Princess Anne, was rushed to hospital with minor injuries and a concussion following an incident at her home, the palace has said.

The 73-year-old, often referred to as the most ‘hard-working’ royal in The Firm was hospitalized after the incident, Buckingham Palace has said. It’s said Princess Anne suffered an incident at her country home, the Gatcombe Park estate, on Sunday. Anne, the sister of King Charles, is expected to make a full recovery.

Buckingham Palace has said the monarch has been informed of his sister’s injuries, and joins the rest of the royal family who wish Princess Anne a ‘speedy recovery’.

It’s believed emergency services were called to the scene in Bristol over the weekend to treat injuries consistent with the possible effects of being hit by a horse.

She was taken to Southmead Hospital for treatment with medical staff, and it’s understood the royal will stay there until later this week.

In a statement released on Monday, the palace said: “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.

“Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.

“The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery.”

They added the 73-year-old is ‘recovering well’.

Her upcoming engagements for the week ahead have been advised to be postponed by doctors. Princess Anne was scheduled to visit Canada at the end of the week.

It means she won’t be attending the state banquet tomorrow, organized by King Charles, in honor of Japanese Emperor Naruhito, on his visit to the UK this week, alongside wife Empress Masako.

“Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result,” a Palace official said.

She’s the ‘hardest-working royal’

It’s out of character for Princess Anne not to attend engagements, but when it comes to her health, she’ll need to rest.

Known for her down-to-Earth nature, the Princess Royal has been dubbed the ‘hardest working royal’ out of The Firm, often showing up other members.

The 73-year-old carried out 172 engagements between January and April 2024 alone, and was taking on almost a third of all royal appearances in the first three months.

This would have also been due to King Charles and Kate Middleton needing to take time off to rest and recover after their cancer diagnoses.

Last year, she carried out 457 total engagements. She managed to pack in 12 to 14 a week, and beat the monarch himself, who bagged 425. Coming in third was Prince Edward, the youngest of the siblings, with 297, and Queen Consort Camilla at 233.
