According to Blair Sanderson of Hawkeye Report, Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown has been arrested and charged with possession of a fake identification and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Here was Sanderson’s tweet Monday morning with that news: “Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown charged with OWI and possession of a fictitious ID,” Sanderson wrote, citing a report from local Iowa station 1630 KJCC.

The KJCC article provided more detail, noting that the events in question occurred in the early-morning hours:

“20-year-old Kaleb Brown of South Van Buren was near his home just before 2:30 am and (was) reportedly observed with heavy front-end damage to his 2023 Dodge Durango, including a front wheel completely turned sideways.”

When Brown’s car was stuck and he struggled to get un-stuck, police noticed Brown might be under the influence.

“Brown then allegedly backed the vehicle onto a lawn and began spinning his tires. Upon contact, he reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance and the strong odor of ingested alcohol,” said the report.

He declined to go through any sobriety tests and was then found with the fake ID

“He refused all field and chemical tests. Brown was also reportedly found with a fictitious driver’s license making him appear to be of legal drinking age.”

Now, Brown’s been charged on both fronts and could face prison time.

“Brown was charged with OWI first offense and possession of a fictitious ID. He could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted on both counts.”

Before his run-in with the law, Brown had played at Iowa just one season after previously transferring over from Ohio State. His first season with the Haweyes did provide more opportunity, as Brown blossomed to record 225 receiving yards and one touchdown in his first year of extended action at the college level. He looked the part of a promising future piece of the WR corps.

In his first and only season back at Ohio State, Brown appeared in just four games and was only able to record one catch during his true freshman year, going for five yards. Ironically, it came against Iowa.

Prior to his time at OSU, Kaleb Brown played high school football at Chicago (IL) St. Rita, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 107 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
