'I'm told': Alan Myers explains what he’s been hearing from inside Everton about Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s exit

After a quiet day at the office, it has seemingly all exploded at once for Everton.

Their transfer window had been a quiet one thus far, with just the sole unassuming acquisition propping up Kevin Thelwell’s transfer window.

However, with news on various targets, as well as potential sales having now emerged, it is hard to keep up.

In the midst of it all though, there is Alan Myers, who has provided an important update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin first and foremost.

Alan Myers on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Newcastle United transfer

Briefly taking to X, the Sky Sports journalist was quick to keep up with the news, as the first domino to fall.

After all, with news that Calvert-Lewin will no longer be leaving the Toffees for Tyneside, it in turn ruled out a potential move for the Magpies’ star youngster Yankuba Minteh.

The reporter simply wrote: ‘I’m told proposed move to NUFC for Calvert-Lewin is off’.

This has naturally sent Evertonians into a frenzy, but Myers has called for calm, replying to one fan who thought that the Minteh deal was therefore dead in the water.

He claimed: ‘I’d take most things with a pinch of salt atm tbh’.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to sign a new Everton contract

Whilst Myers does provide a little bit of hope at the end of his claim, attention must now focus on Calvert-Lewin.

After all, he is an Everton player, and seems likely to remain one with Newcastle United out of the running.

So, with just one year left on his deal, and with his main exit plan now scuppered, the Toffees need to work on tying down their star striker on a long-term deal.

Last season saw the 27-year-old score just seven Premier League goals, but he remained an imperative focal point for Sean Dyche’s system.

With a magnetic head and a fine first touch, his hold-up play props up everything good that Everton manage on the break.

Keeping him around for as long as possible is important, especially given his precarious contract situation.

Myers has confirmed that the Magpies will not win this transfer battle, just as Manchester United continue to try and sign Jarrad Branthwaite.

It would be so refreshing to see the Toffees bat off all outside interest, retain the core of their squad, and go into the last season at Goodison Park as strong as ever, ready to make history. Calvert-Lewin’s new contract would be a key factor in achieving that.
