Fenland drivers in the thick of the action at King’s Lynn

There was a great night of racing at King’s Lynn on Saturday when Trackstar celebrated the 40+ year career of Wisbech star John Moat.

The night started with a “Moat’s Throwback Old Skool Race” which was open to cars that dominated the formula two decades or more ago – Toyota Starlet’s and Vauxhall Novas and the like.

John’s son Dean had done a tremendous job getting drivers for this race and a big well done to drivers who had made a tremendous effort.

A dozen cars took to the track, including John himself in a Nova which he had first built for the track back in 2004.

John started at the back of the grid but scythed through the pack to hit the front with a handful of laps to go.

He kept out of the reach of British Champion Lee Pearce to take a hugely popular victory and kick off his special night in style.

John Klyn came home in fourth place with John’s son Dean coming finishing sixth.

John was also in the places in the main meeting when he got a sixth-place finish in his heat.

Dean also did well with a tenth-place finish in his heat and then a great driver in the “Celebrating the 40+ year career of 673 John Moat” Final saw him come home in third place with World Champion Jacob Bromley taking the chequered flag.

Barty Ketteringham was sixth in one of his heats.

Tommy Parrin had a busy night as he raced both the 1300 stock cars and the 2L stock cars.

Parrin was in the Shane Moat car after Shane missed the meeting with a broken arm.

Parrin did well all night in the 1300 Stock Cars with a third in his heat and fourth place in the final. Parrin also had a fifth in the 2L stock cars heat.

The 2L stock cars also saw the annual ladies charity race with Cancer Research benefitting to the tune of £7500.

Pippa Cable was in action in this and did well to recover from an early spin to work her way back up to fifth place by the time the chequered flag fell.

James Licquorice and Brad Bartram were in action for the Dover Boys in the 2L Banger War of the Worlds Team event and both enjoyed a brilliant night.

Bartram took the chequered flag in the opening heat of the night before coming home fourth in the final to help propel the team into third place in the race points.

Licquorice picked up a hatful of entertainer points which was instrumental in helping the team to win the entertainer league on the day.

Bartrum currently leads the way in the National Points for the National Bangers and Licquorice has already built up what is looking like being an unassailable lead in the Entertainer Points in what has already been a tremendous 2024.
