'Them two': Aaron Ramsdale names Man City duo as the outfielders who'd make best England goalkeeper

Aaron Ramsdale believes two Manchester City players would make the best goalkeepers for England out of all the outfielders.

Ramsdale sat down with his Arsenal teammate Bukayo Saka on Sunday to talk to presenter Josh Denzel about the latest ongoings in the camp.

Currently, fans are frustrated with England after their first two performances.

The Three Lions are top of the group with four points, but have not played well.

Gareth Southgate has certainly had his critics, and big improvements are needed against Slovenia on Tuesday.

Ahead of that game, Ramsdale and Saka spoke on the latest ‘Lions Den’ segment on the England YouTube channel.

During the Euros, Josh Denzel has been sitting down with the England players to check in with them and get the lowdown on what is going on in the camp.

It is a chance for the players to unwind and have a laugh, and it also allows fans to ask questions.

The chats are always light-hearted and relaxed, and the player sometimes get asked hypothetical questions.

And that was the case on Sunday, with Ramsdale and Saka being asked who they felt would make the best goalkeeper out of all the outfield players in the England squad.

Saka said: “Walks (Kyle Walker) has actually played in goal. He played in goal and kept and he kept a clean sheet, Champions League!”

This led Ramsdale to tell an amusing anecdote about the Manchester City captain.

He said: “Walks played in the Champions League and at one point, he was the only goalie to play Champions League! Up until one of the camps. In one of the camps it was me, Piccers (Jordan Pickford) and Sam Johnstone and he walked past and said ‘Any of you kept a clean sheet at the San Siro?’

“Him and John Stones. Them two every morning they’ll be on the goalies, when they’re walking out to warm up. ‘Catch it, should have done this, should have done that’.

Walker has previous

It was probably inevitable that Ramsdale would choose Walker as the best outfielder to go in net – since it has actually happened before, of course.

Back in 2019, in a Champions League game against Atalanta at San Siro, Walker had to don the gloves for City, after Ederson picked up an injury and substitute Claudio Bravo got sent off.

Walker was selected ‘for his courage and because he is quick’ according to Pep Guardiola after that game.

Clearly, he wasn’t about to let anyone in the England camp forget about his clean sheet.
