While Ahmarean Brown‘s journey in the NFL is just getting started, the former South Carolina wide receiver is quickly learning.
“I can’t lie to you, the first couple of weeks whooo,” Brown said in a recent interview with The Dawgs Podcast. “It was rough because they throw so much at you. They don’t expect you to learn it right away but us as competitors and as rookies, we don’t want to go out and mess things up. Your first impression is your best impression so for me, I was studying literally until I went to sleep… I know this game is more mental than physical so I’ve just been trying to find my routine of how to handle things.”

After going undrafted in April, Brown was quickly signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns. Agreeing to a three-year contract worth $2.850M, his deal included $170K guaranteed and a signing bonus worth $20K.
Standing at just 5-8, 170 pounds, Brown is coming off his best season as a Gamecock after catching 26 passes for 265 yards and a touchdown. It was his best season of his college career since his freshman year at Georgia Tech in 2020 when he caught seven touchdown passes before transferring to South Carolina ahead of the 2021 season.
“I think the transition has (been) going pretty well. The think the terminology is what gets a lot of the guys. But a lot of the guys don’t come form a pro style offense, which can be tough. I think (playing in a pro style offense at South Carolina is) definitely a benefit for me because I’m kind of familiar with a lot of the concepts. The names may be different and there may be tweaks here and there but I’m familiar with how things go.”

With several NFL practices already under his belt from rookie minicamp and OTAs (organized team activities), Brown will be leaning on that experience to help him get through his first training camp. Cleveland rookies will report for training camp on July 22 while veterans will report on the 23rd.
“(When I got) here, it was just about me starting over again… (and) finding out who I was again in this new situation. I know my skillset and what I’m capable of but it’s about finding that new routine. Things are different. It’s a business and they treat it like a business. Nobody is following you and making you do this. Nobody is going to remind you to make sure to go over this because it’s important. (It’s about) making sure you pay attention to the small things like when a coach isn’t speaking to you but he’s explaining something you gotta make sure you listen to that as well.”
