Cesc Fabregas shares what Inter Miami's Sergio Busquets used to do which left him shocked at Barcelona

Cesc Fabregas has detailed what impressed him the most about Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets during their time together at FC Barcelona.

The former Arsenal captain was part of arguably the greatest club side of all-time, with Busquets anchoring a midfield made up of Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, with Fabregas part of the supporting squad.

Now a coach at newly-promoted Serie A side Como 1907, Fabregas’ legacy within soccer might not be as great as the likes of Busquets, yet the former Spanish international is still regarded as one of the greats for a certain generation of supporters.

Busquets hailed for underrated ‘skillful’ traits at Barcelona

Speaking on Five, Fabregas lauded his former Barcelona teammate, with the pundit noting how underrated Busquets’ ‘skillful’ traits were during the peak of his powers alongside Iniesta and Xavi.

Indeed, Busquets role in that Barcelona side is regarded as one of the most important given how well the midfielder kept everything connected and ticking over, and Fabregas has now shed light on the other aspects of the Inter Miami star’s game.

Fabregas said: “You don’t find players anymore that can dictate games by playing one-touch or being physically inferior. They’re anticipating the game, not reading the game, they’re not looking 20 times before they receive the ball. They don’t understand that this player is going to make this run at that time.

“But he [Busquets] would just walk around, and dictate games, and he didn’t feel the pressure. You could press him as hard as possible, and he would still do the unexpected. After that, he was so skillful, sometimes he would feint, and you were gone. For me, he’s one of the greatest players in that position.”

Busquets is starting to show a new side to his game at Inter Miami

Busquets has always been viewed as the conductor for the likes of Barcelona and the Spanish national team, with the midfielder the player the one tasked with keeping the ball moving and for ensuring everyone knows what they’re doing.

And whilst Busquets still does this at Inter Miami, the veteran maestro is now showing a new side to his game where he is now more involved in the attack and putting his neck out there when it comes to scoring and assisting goals.

Whilst Busquets’ numbers aren’t going to set the world alight, it’s an interesting development that has been noticed in the last 12 months since moving to Inter Miami, with Tata Martino getting some more mileage out of the 35-year-old.
