Over two thousand people turned out in yesterday’s sunshine for the annual Wisbech Armed Forces Day event.
The event was held for the second year running in the town park and included stalls, music, refreshments which included afternoon tea, provided by Just Poppin’ – a newly opened tea shop in the town, and much more.
As always the day started at 10am with a flag raising ceremony which included a representative from the sea, army, air and police cadets, along with the Girls Venture Corps.
It concluded with a parade followed by a sunset ceremony.
Jan Hutchinson, who organised the event with her husband Ray, was delighted with its success.
She said: “Everyone seemed to have a good time including our VIP guests – RAF Marham’s Station Commander Group Captain Fred Wrigglesworth; the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire Colonel Mark Knight, Wisbech mayor Sidney Imafidon and Nick Meekins, chair of Fenland Council.”
She said the stands including the Royal British Legion. Royal Air Force Association, the Society of St George and Wisbech Lions.
Jan added: “We managed to hold the review of the cadets at the end of the parade in the shade of the trees, but one or two did struggle with the heat of the day.”
Crowds were able to enjoy browsing the many stalls and could also admire and get up close to an array of military vehicles and for the children there were fair rides.
