Meghan Markle's dad begs to 'speak to King Charles' - 'Many unanswered questions'

Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Snr., has expressed an interest in sitting down with King Charles to address “unanswered questions”.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, tied the knot in May 2018, with over a billion people watching the ceremony at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle from their homes. Many were thrilled to see her join the British Royal family. On the other hand, some fell out of love with the couple somewhat following their relocation to Meghan’s native California in June 2020. Since then, everything from the Oprah interview to Harry’s memoir Spare has stirred controversy. Meanwhile, a rift had already formed between Meghan and her father Thomas Markle Snr., ahead of the royal wedding. And now, he wants answers…

Meghan Markle’s dad ‘would love to speak’ to King Charles

Meghan and her 79-year-old father haven’t spoken in six years. They fell out after he was caught staging paparazzi photos before her wedding, but he has now told the Daily Mail he wishes to sit down with King Charles and chat about his daughter and son-in-law.

“I would love to speak to him because I am sure he has as many unanswered questions as I do,” he said. “Neither of us deserves the treatment we’ve received. I have so many questions I’d like to ask Meghan and Harry. The main one being, why have they treated not only me but the Royal Family and the King so badly.”

Thomas has yet to meet his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, whereas Charles has met Archie numerous times and Lilibet only once.

“They have two grandpas who want to see them,” Thomas said of his grandkids, “one of whom is the King of England. I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the King.”

He has begged to have a meeting with Charles so they can discuss what he believes to be their shared experience. He hopes that he’ll be able to meet his grandchildren before he turns 80 on Thursday, July 18th later this year.

Meghan Markle previously addressed broken relationship with her father

Premiering in March 2021, the Duke and Duchess’ interview with Oprah saw Meghan address her grief over cutting ties with Thomas.

“I mean, I’ve lost my father,” she began. “I lost a baby. I nearly lost my name. I mean, there’s the loss of identity. But I’m still standing, and my hope for people in the takeaway from this is to know that there’s another side.”

It remains unclear whether she will ultimately reconcile with him, or whether he’ll be allowed to introduce himself to his grandchildren.

He’s been persistent in his wish to speak with his daughter. “I refuse to be buried by her,” he told 7NEWS Spotlight in 2023. “I wish that we could sit down and talk.”
