Micky van de Ven left furious by what player sold by Tottenham in 2022 did to him in Netherlands training

Micky van de Ven was almost put in a very difficult situation by a player Tottenham sold back in July 2022.

The Netherlands international – who is currently away at UEFA EURO 2024 – has endured a tough time in Germany so far, as Ronald Koeman hands him just three minutes of action, despite the fact he was named Tottenham’s Player of the Season following a tremendous 2023/24 campaign.

Even in that three minute cameo, the Dutchman was played out of position – which left Ben Foster gobsmacked.

Luckily, Micky van de Ven is okay, but the Tottenham No.37 almost saw his tournament go from bad to worse due to the actions of Steven Bergwijn

Steven Bergwijn almost injures Micky van de Ven in Netherlands training

Dutch media outlet FC Update have now revealed that Steven Bergwijn almost injured Van de Ven in Netherlands training.

Reporter Noa Vahle said: “He went all out on Micky van de Ven’s ankle. I understand Micky’s reaction. Such an action will only cost you the European Championship. Steven Bergwijn has apologised.”

Spurs fans will remember their 2023/24 campaign somewhat falling apart after the £35m man suffered a serious hamstring injury in November’s 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, a moment which saw Tottenham go from being unbeaten in ten Premier League outings, to losing three consecutive games.

Therefore, supporters will surely be furious to hear that Bergwijn almost caused Van de Ven to suffer another injury.

Fortunately, the 23-year-old is okay.

Tottenham fans must be baffled

In our view, Tottenham fans must be utterly puzzled as to why Koeman is not starting Van de Ven at UEFA EURO 2024.

The 32-year-old Stefan de Vrij has been preferred next to Virgil van Dijk, and the Oranje do not look to be anything special out in Germany, to say the least.

Poland even managed to go 1-0 up against Koeman’s strange defence in the opening match of Group D after just 16 minutes.

To have the chance of fielding a backline of Van de Ven, Nathan Ake and Van Dijk is something most managers can only dream of, so it is truly baffling to see Koeman ignore the Tottenham star.
