Report: What people within Tottenham have said after recent claims that Spurs have made Ivan Toney bid

Ivan Toney has been long linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur with Ange Postecoglou on the lookout for a new striker.

The Brentford star is expected to seal a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium this summer but it remains unclear where he’ll end up.

It was claimed just last week that Toney had already agreed to a move to Tottenham, with Brentford holding out for £55 million.

Spurs are reportedly only willing to pay £40 million for the England star with his contract set to expire next summer.

Now, after claims that Tottenham had made a move to sign Toney, Football.London has shared how club insiders have reacted to the recent rumours.

How Tottenham insiders have reacted to Toney links

Football.London has shared the latest on Spurs’ search for a new striker, with the likes of Lille’s Jonathan David on their radar.

But as for Toney, people within Tottenham have apparently distanced themselves from recent reports.

It’s claimed that speculation over a move for Toney has been downplayed at this stage of the transfer window.

What Toney has said about his future amid Spurs interest

It’s no secret that Toney has been open about his desire to leave Brentford for a fresh challenge this summer.

Following his nine-month ban from football last year, the Bees star netted just four times in 17 Premier League appearances after his return.

Whether or not that has put potential suitors off a move is up for debate. But Toney has recently insisted he’s ready for a big move.

“It’s nice to be linked with other clubs, but I have had disappointment in the past and nothing is done until it’s done. I am still a Brentford player and I have to be focused on that and doing well for Brentford for the coming season.

“If it (a big move) was to come I would be ready regardless, but like I said I have to remain focused and not let other things and other noise get the better of me.”
