Swavesey Village College collects top marks in Ofsted inspection

A headteacher has pledged “not to be complacent” after his school was again judged to be outstanding in all areas by inspectors.

Swavesey Village College, which is part of the Meridian Trust, was praised for having “high ambitions for all” by Ofsted following a recent visit.

The inspectors’ report, published this month, highlighted the strength of the college’s provision for personal development stating “the curriculum for personal development is exemplary”.

Inspectors also found that “all pupils enjoy many excellent opportunities” and that “pupils build up their character in a rich way” with “deep leadership skills.”

Inspectors said the school is “a supportive community which pupils enjoy attending” and pupils “benefit from positive working relationships with adults and learn in a safe environment”.

The school was previously graded ‘outstanding’ and has again collected top marks in the areas of quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.

Headteacher Jim Stavrou said: “I am privileged to lead a team of excellent staff and students here at Swavesey Village College and we are all very proud of the findings of this report. Inspectors spent a considerable amount of time in lessons in a variety of subjects and spoke with many students, teachers, academy council members and trustees. As a result, this report is a strong reflection of the vision and quality of education we provide for all our students.

“I am delighted that inspectors praised not only our curriculum and quality of education, but have highlighted our safeguarding processes, the support we offer to our students with special educational needs and the highly positive outcomes our students gain during their time with us. This news is very positive, but we will not be complacent about the results of this inspection and will continue to strive to ensure that Swavesey Village College delivers the very best possible school experience for all students.”

Mark Woods, chief executive officer of Meridian Trust, added: “The college’s continued success is a reflection of the trust’s commitment to providing a high-quality education for everyone, at the heart of local communities – a mission which began at Swavesey Village College and continues to be embodied by the school.”
