NATO leaders at the summit in Washington, scheduled for July 9-11, are expected to support long-term funding to aid Ukraine in its war against Russia, states NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

During a joint press conference with President Emmanuel Macron of France, the Secretary General emphasized that at the Washington summit, the top priority would be to enhance support for Ukraine.

He reminded that recent gaps in assistance to Ukraine have had consequences on the battlefield. Therefore, Ukraine needs predictability and accountability.

The Secretary General stressed his hope that allies would coordinate assistance for Ukrainian forces and commit to long-term financial support.

Stoltenberg's initiative of 40 billion euros

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed that Alliance countries annually allocate 40 billion euros for military aid to Ukraine.

According to him, this would provide Ukraine with predictability in terms of arms supplies.

Recently, following a meeting of NATO defense ministers, the Secretary General noted that consensus within the Alliance on this issue has not yet been achieved.
