Arsenal fans are all saying the same thing about Jorginho after Italy v Croatia at Euro 2024

Arsenal supporters have now given their verdict on the performance that Jorginho produced for Italy v Croatia at Euro 2024.

Both Italy and Croatia faced the prospect of elimination from Euro 2024 if they fell to defeat when they met on Monday evening in Leipzig.

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho was named in the Italy starting XI for this fixture.

In a midfield match up between two sides featuring a great deal of experience, the pace of the game suited the 32-year-old.

The former Chelsea veteran was able to get a lot of time on the ball, and keep things ticking over for his side. However, his passing was not particularly incisive, in what was overall a staid and rather stand-offish match, particularly in the first half.

The Azzurri did ultimately snatch a 1-1 draw, ensuring their progression to the knockout rounds of the competition as the runners-up in their group behind Spain.

Arsenal fans discuss Jorginho display after Italy v Croatia at Euro 2024

As Jorginho toiled away against Croatia, plenty of Arsenal fans on X were sharing their thoughts on his efforts.

One supporter said: “Jorginho is having a good game.”

Another stated: “why does Jorginho look a million times the player than the one at Arsenal? Hitting diags nd dat. Smh.”

One Arsenal fan said during the match, after Italy fell behind: “jorginho, i’m sorry your team are embarrassing you.”

Another supporter added during the game: “I know they are currently losing, but the way Italy are able to sustain periods of attacking pressure is due to having Jorginho constantly recycling the ball. It is exactly what England needs, just a midfield pivot who sits and dictates play.”

How important is Jorginho to Arsenal?

Jorginho is not quite the player he once was, and can no longer play week in, week out over the course of an entire season for the Gunners. However, he remains a valued figure at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta clearly has huge faith in the 57-cap international. He brings important leadership qualities and vital experience to the dressing room, as a senior figure in what is otherwise a particularly young Arsenal squad. In this capacity, Jorginho has becoming something of a mentor to Declan Rice.

Arteta has also previously described Jorginho as the most intelligent player he has ever worked with. His football IQ is often obvious on the pitch, as he relies on his excellent positioning and ability to read the game to avoid being caught out for his lack of pace, and can often be spotted directing and instructing teammates.
