'Outstanding': National press say Liverpool player was unreal at Copa America last night, fans left 'amazed'

All four Liverpool players have now made their bows at the Copa America in the United States.

While attention in Europe is focused on Euro 2024, the America’s equivalent competition is now in full swing.

And while Liverpool players are having a bit of a mixed time of it in Germany, they are having a little more luck over in the the States.

After four games, the Reds’ South America quartet are all unbeaten. Alexis Mac Allister got an assist, Darwin Nunez inevitably got a goal – although still split opinion amongst the Uruguayan press – and on Monday it was the turn of Luis Diaz.

Diaz and Colombia have been in terrific form heading into the tournament. And on Monday evening in Houston, that duly continued.

Colombian media rave about Luis Diaz show

Diaz has been in the news plenty in the run up to the Copa America beginning. There is still a possibility that the 27-year-old leaves Anfield this summer.

With Barcelona circling Diaz, it remains to be seen whether he’ll be a part of the Liverpool squad next season.

In the meantime though, the Colombian is still very much a Red. And having seen what Diaz did against Paraguay, that is good news for Liverpool supporters.

He may not have gotten on the scoresheet during Los Cafeteros’ 2-1 win, but according to Colombian outlet El Espectador, Liverpool’s No.7 was still a real star of the show.

They claim that Diaz was ‘one the most outstanding players’ for Nestor Lozano’s side on the night.

Hailing him as being ‘impossible to control,’ El Espectador highlight one moment in particular that is said to have ‘amazed fans’ in the NRG Stadium.

Cornered by two Paraguayan defenders near to the corner flag, Diaz showed tremendous quick feet to get himself out of the situation and cross the ball to a teammate.

It was a lovely piece of skill from Diaz which is said to have been symbolic of his whole performance. Although the Paraguayan defenders reportedly ‘tried to contain him with blows and kicks,’ the Liverpool man could not be tied down.

Latest on Luis Diaz transfer talk

With Liverpool reportedly in the market for a new forward, Diaz currently seems like the most likely to leave the club this summer.

Barcelona are clearly interested in the former Porto man, although their financial struggles mean that is perhaps not too much of a worry for Liverpool.

They’ll also have taken heart from Diaz’s comments on the matter recently. It seems as though he is not especially pushing to leave Anfield.

The Reds continue to be linked with players such as Nico Williams in the meantime, though. Should someone like Williams come in, it may spell danger for Diaz’s place in the team.

If the flying winger can continue to turn in performances of this quality whilst away with his national team mind you, Liverpool would be foolish to let him go.

A great start to the summer for Lucho, let’s hope he can start affecting the scoresheet as well next time.
