National media suggest Arsenal star could be 'dropped' after 'disappearing' at Euro 2024

An Arsenal star has been slammed by the national media after ‘disappearing’ in last night’s Euro 2024 clash.

The Gunners have seen mixed success from their 11 players competing in Germany this summer, with Jakub Kiwior’s Poland the first country to be eliminated from the Euros, as Kieran Tierney was forced to fly back to Arsenal after picking up a hamstring injury.

However, with the likes of Bukayo Saka and William Saliba praised for their performances at the European Championship, there’s still a good chance that Arsenal will have a player lifting the trophy come the end of the tournament.

Yet one player could well be dropped before such a chance is even granted this summer.

Jorginho slammed by the Italian media after dramatic Croatia draw

Italy came moments away from being eliminated from the Euros as a 98th-minute Mattia Zaccagni equaliser booked the Azzurri’s passage to the next round, with Jorginho not even on the pitch when the goal happened.

Yet a look at the Italian press this morning seems to suggest that calls for Jorginho to be ‘dropped’ are starting to grow, with CalcioMercato noting that the Arsenal man was again ‘disappearing’ as the match went on.

Having been slammed after Italy’s 1-0 loss against Spain, Jorginho could have bounced back with a bang against Croatia, yet as per Corriere della Sera, the Arsenal maestro failed to shower himself in any sort of glory in Leipzig.

Although Sky Sports Italia were a lot more reasonable with Jorginho’s performance, the midfielder was still criticised for failing to do much, with the Brazilian-born star’s lack of forward passing called into question.

Arsenal fans should be worried about Jorginho’s form this Euros

Jorginho was one of Arsenal’s best players in 2024, with the former Chelsea man carving a real niche for himself in the starting XI that brought the best out Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in central midfield.

Yet the 32-year-old has looked like a shadow of his former self this season at the Euros, with Jorginho now enduring two poor performances that have seen the former Napoli star slammed by the Italian media.

And whilst this could all be down to playing in the new Azzurri system, Arsenal fans might have to be worried about what kind of Jorginho will return this summer based on his form at this summer’s Euros.

Arsenal winners and losers at Euro 2024

In this week’s episode, Will Jones and Rahul Lakhani discussed the first few days of the European Championships. With Arsenal players such as Kai Havertz and Kieran Tierney experiencing mixed starts to the tournament, the pair assessed which Gunners were the winners and losers from the group stages so far.

There was some talk about transfers based off the Euros, with Arsenal-linked Amadou Onana’s display for Belgium discussed, whilst Leandro Trossard’s poor performance was analysed, and Bukayo Saka’s sensational England showing lauded.
