Mikel Arteta new contract timeframe now emerges after 'initial conversations' with Arsenal

Arsenal are now working on a resolution to manager Mikel Arteta’s contract situation.

Arsenal are keen to tie Mikel Arteta down to new terms.

As things stand, the Spanish coach’s current contract is set to expire in 2025, at the end of the upcoming season.

It would not be a surprise if other clubs were keeping tabs on this situation, hoping for an opportunity to prise the former midfielder away from the Emirates Stadium. For instance, Barcelona have shown an interest in making Arteta their manager in the past.

However, the North London club remain relaxed about the situation, as it is clear that it is Arteta’s intention to extend his stay with the Gunners. After all, his work with the club is far from done.

The 42-year-old has successfully made Arsenal genuine contenders for the biggest prizes in the game again. The Gunners have finished as runners-up in each of the last two Premier League seasons, and Arteta will be desperate to take the next step and get them over the line.

Arteta has promised Arsenal fans that silverware is on the way. He will be eyeing up domestic glory, as well as success on the continent in the Champions League. He clearly plans to remain in his post in order to deliver upon this vow.

Arsenal expected to agree new contract terms with Mikel Arteta soon

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Arteta’s contract situation at Arsenal.

As quoted by Caught Offside, the reporter said: “I think soon. I don’t think it’s going to be long. Arsenal already had some conversations with the agents of Mikel Arteta. And they are quite relaxed because they are very happy with Arteta and Arteta is very happy with Arsenal.

“Obviously, they want to get it done as soon as possible, but they feel that Arteta is not entertaining talks with any other club.

“He only wants to focus on the Arsenal project and they are more than happy with him… The initial conversations already took place and so I think it’s a matter of time and then we will see Mikel Arteta signing a new contract.”

This will come as welcome news to Arsenal fans, who will want this situation sorted out as quickly as possible. It will certainly help the Gunners in the transfer market this summer if potential new arrivals feel assured that there is no question mark over Arteta’s future at the club.

The impact Arteta has had at Arsenal

Arteta has gradually transformed Arsenal since his appointment in December 2019. At that time, the club were in something of a mess, having fallen far from even Champions League qualification contention, and a toxic rift existed between the club and the fans.

Over time, Arteta, working with sporting director Edu, was able to build a young, talented, and likeable team and reforge the connection with the supporters. All that remains now is for him to deliver major trophies.
