What Stuart Kettlewell said about Theo Bair's Motherwell future as Celtic links emerge

Celtic are said to be keen on Motherwell forward Theo Bair this summer following his exploits in the Scottish Premiership last term.

Per Transfermarkt, the Canada international registered 15 goals and six assists in 41 appearances across 2023/24 at the Fir Park outfit.

His positive form hasn’t gone unnoticed now that the summer transfer window is open, with Celtic vying for his services alongside Rangers and several German clubs, according to reports.

The 24-year-old has also addressed his future while on international duty, citing the need for him to be ‘tested physically’ if he were to leave Motherwell over the coming weeks.

Touching on his future, Kettlewell stated [BBC Sport]: “With the likes of Theo, I am very, very relaxed about it, I really am. I don’t mean that to be blase, but when you start getting pent up abut interest in your players, you would never be able to do your job.

“I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that people will be interested in Theo Bair. He is a signed player at this football club. For anyone to prise him away that’s going to cost a significant amount of money.

“I would love to keep him at the football club because I feel that he is just getting better and better; I feel he is really learning his trade and enjoying his football. He is loving everything about playing here at Motherwell and leading the line.

“When you look across world football, there is not a whole host of number nines that play with his stature, his pace, his ability to play with his back to goal, and then the finishing prowess he is starting to show.”

You get the impression Kettlewell is comfortable with Bair’s situation, ultimately he knows that Motherwell could be tempted to sell this summer, but that would only prove to vindicate his faith in the striker’s ability.

Following a spell at St Johnstone in 2022/23 where the Canadian scored once in 34 outings, many eyebrows were raised when he joined the Steelmen.

Nevertheless, through the help of Motherwell’s analysis team and their meticulous work, Bair has been able to thrive in North Lanarkshire.

Whether he could make the step up to Celtic is another question; nevertheless, his story is an intriguing one and it will be interesting to see where his future lies this summer.
