Celtic named as surprise suitors in the hunt for Scottish Premiership striker

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers could look at the Scottish Premiership as he presses ahead ahead in his hunt for striking reinforcements.

With Adam Idah now back at Norwich City following his excellent loan spell at Parkhead last term, there is uncertainty over whether he will rejoin permanently.

Canaries manager Johannes Hoff Thorup is keen to evaluate him in pre-season before deciding on his future. Meanwhile, Hyeongyu Oh remains a target for Belgian outfit Genk following 12 goals in 47 appearances at Celtic since arriving in 2023.

Should the South Korea international depart this summer, Kyogo Furuhashi would be the only remaining natural striker on the books at Parkhead.

Now, reports have emerged claiming that Celtic are surprise suitors for a forward who starred last campaign in the Scottish top-flight.

Celtic named as suitors for Motherwell striker Theo Bair

According to The Athletic, Celtic have shown ‘interest in adding’ Motherwell striker Theo Bair to their ranks this summer alongside Rangers and several German clubs.

The Canada international registered 15 goals and six assists in 41 appearances last term, enjoying a career revival at Fir Park under Stuart Kettlewell’s stewardship.

Speaking to the outlet, Bair highlighted his need to be ‘tested physically’ and has backed himself to succeed at the highest level.

He explained: “If a transfer were to come, I want to go as high as possible and test myself. I think I need to be tested physically. I need to go and prove myself right: I believe I can score at the highest levels and I don’t want this season to be a one-off.”

It would be a surprise if Celtic were to deal in Bair; I don’t think anyone would’ve forecast him being on their transfer wishlist.

Nevertheless, he has clearly proved his worth at Motherwell, showing pace, power and a clinical edge in a remarkable year that saw him go from an arrival many questioned in North Lanarkshire to becoming arguably their most important asset.

Either way, it is an intriguing link worth keeping an eye on. Celtic need a striker or two in the building, and time is of the essence regarding prospective new arrivals.
