Report: 'Unbelievable' £8m player appears to have very little interest in joining Leeds United this summer

Leeds United are expected to be in the market for new attackers this summer with a number of players expected to go, and the stance of one target has now been reported.

Leeds are well stocked up top but that could change in the transfer window. Leeds have Patrick Bamford, Mateo Joseph, Joel Piroe and Joe Gelhardt as striker options, but a few wingers are expected to depart.

Jaidon Anthony has returned to Bournemouth after a loan spell, while Ian Poveda is set to see his Leeds contract expire at the end of the month. Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto are expected to be sold.

One option Leeds are being linked with is Norwich City star Josh Sargent, who is currently at the Copa America with Brenden Aaronson. USA secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Bolivia in their first game.

Leeds United want to sign Norwich City ace Josh Sargent

Norwich sporting director Ben Knopper said this week that The Canaries would have to sell this summer in order to be able to do any signings of their own, and Sargent is a player listed as a possible sale.

Leeds fans will remember Sargent for his miss in the play-off semi-finals first leg, failing to hit the back of the net when clean through on goal as Illan Meslier clawed his chipped effort behind for a corner.

But Leeds are interested after Sargent, once described as “unbelievable” by Daniel Farke while Norwich manager. The £8m signing scored 16 Championship goals last season in just 28 league appearances.

What is Sargent’s stance on a potential move to Leeds

The Athletic deliver an update on Sargent’s future amid interest from Leeds and other Premier League clubs. They say despite Norwich’s need to sell, Sargent is happy at Carrow Road and could look to stay.

Leeds need a right-back, a replacement for Joe Rodon, cover in midfield, two or three new wingers and maybe a no.10. But if there is one area in the Leeds side that does not need strengthening, it is up top.

Sargent would be a very solid signing especially at Championship level but Leeds should only move if one or two current options depart. Leeds have to fill other areas of the squad on a tight budget this summer.
