Leeds need to elbow Southampton aside for 'magic' £5m man, ideal Crysencio Summerville replacement - opinion

Leeds United are going to need a new winger or two this summer and the perfect summer addition is being eyed by both Southampton and West Ham, according to a new report.

Jaidon Anthony has returned to Bournemouth after a loan at Elland Road, while Crysencio Summerville is more than expected to join Anthony in departing Daniel Farke’s side in the coming weeks and months.

Willy Gnonto is said to be keen on an exit with Inter Milan interested in landing the Italy star, in order to boost their homegrown quota of players and comply with Champions League registration rules next term.

It means Leeds could be left with just Dan James as a recognised winger at Elland Road. The 49ers need to set some money aside to bring in a new winger or two in the coming weeks and months, this summer.

Southampton want perfect Crysencio Summerville replacement

The ideal replacement for Summerville this summer is likely to be available after a wonderful 2023-24 campaign. Hull’s Jaden Philogene had a hand in 18 goals in 32 Championship games, after his £5m move.

A report from TeamTalk says that Southampton and West Ham are among the Hull star’s admirers ahead of the summer window. It is unclear how much Hull would want for the former Aston Villa winger.

But his skill, his speed, his flair and his end product are all similar traits to that of Netherlands U21 star Summerville. In a Leeds shirt, that tally will increase for a player that has a contract at Hull until June 2026.

Philogene can be next Summerville at Leeds next season

Indeed, Summerville’s future looks almost definitely away from Leeds. The club need to sell for cash, Summerville is likely to be tempted by the Premier League and there are Premier League clubs interested.

So replacing him with a player that knows the Championship well and has starred at this level, makes the utmost sense. ‘Magic’ Philogene would be perfect to replace but Southampton and West Ham are keen.
