Report: Dan Barlaser's situation at Middlesbrough now clarified amid ongoing transfer exit rumours

A journalist has provided an update on Dan Barlaser’s situation at Middlesbrough following reports of a bid being made for the midfielder.

The 2024 summer transfer window looks set to bring about a number of big changes at Middlesbrough.

The Championship outfit already have three new signings through the door in the form of Luke Ayling, Delano Burgzorg and Aidan Morris.

A new striker is also expected to be a priority for Middlesbrough in the remainder of the current window.

It is not just incomings that are expected on Teesside this summer though, with several names potentially set to depart the Riverside before deadline day.

With Luke Ayling and Tommy Smith Michael Carrick’s main right-back options heading into 2024/25, Anfernee Dijksteel has been made available for sale.

Elsewhere, Riley McGree’s future has been called into doubt with the midfielder having just 12 months left on his current contract.

Another midfielder, Hayden Hackney, has also attracted interest from the Premier League in recent months.

Last week, meanwhile, it was reported that Dan Barlaser was the subject of interest from Turkish outfit, Trabzonspor.

Middlesbrough have not received any bids for Dan Barlaser

The reports, which emerged in Turkey, claimed that Boro had received a bid from the Europa League side for Barlaser.

Journalist Hasan Tuncel stated that there was not much difference between the figure Trabzonspor had offered for the midfielder and the sum Boro were willing to sell him for.

Now, however, there has been a fresh update on Barlaser’s situation at Middlesbrough, via Dominic Shaw of the Northern Echo.

Despite previous reports, Shaw claims Boro have not been contacted by Trabzonspor and no bid has been made.

Shaw clarifies that a bid could still be submitted to Middlesbrough, with Barlaser’s future needing some clarification.

Should Middlesbrough sell Dan Barlaser

Should a bid actually arrive from the Turkish outfit, Michael Carrick will have a big decision to make.

Barlaser made 33 Championship appearances last term but is not regarded as a key part of Middlesbrough’s starting eleven.

However, the remainder of Boro’s business this summer could mean the 27-year-old is still needed on Teesside.

Aidan Morris has arrived at the club and is seen as a replacement for loanee, Lewis O’Brien.

But Carrick could still lose a few midfielders this summer, which would push Barlaser up the pecking order.

Hayden Hackney has attracted interest from the Premier League, Jonny Howson is 36 years of age and Riley McGree only has a year left on his contract.

Should either Hackney or McGree be sold this summer, or Howson be unable to play regularly in 2024/25 due to his age, Boro will be short of options in midfield.

So, while selling Barlaser for some extra transfer funds may be a good move, the North East outfit should hold off on his potential sale until they have a better understanding of what their midfield will look like come August.
