2026 4-star QB Troy Huhn commits to Penn State: ‘I see myself thriving in the environment at Penn State’

Troy Huhn is the latest top quarterback in the 2026 class to come off the board. Over two dozen schools have offered the four-star out of Mission Hills (Calif.) and after numerous visits this spring and summer, he found his future home. It is Penn State.

“From the beginning, after every visit that I would take, I would think back to Penn State because they were always there and always with me,” Huhn told On3. “They showed the most love, they stayed the most consistent, and that made a difference for me in the end. I always wanted to go where I was wanted and Penn State showed me that over time. How they recruited me helped push them to the top of my list.”

Huhn has only been playing quarterback for two years. After his sophomore season, he held around nine offers. Oregon was the first to pull the trigger in the off-season, then Huhn’s recruitment took off.

Texas led at one time. Michigan was high on his list. But Huhn kept coming back to Penn State. He was there last week and that sealed the deal in his recruitment.

“On my second visit to Penn State, it really helped push me to my decision. I have thought about different schools at different times, but I was never 100% there. I always told myself, even if I was 95% sure about a school that I was going to wait.

“When I got back to Penn State, I spent more time with the players, the coaches and felt the love again. They were always on my mind and high on my list, but that visit did it. My time with coach James Franklin, being around coach Danny O’Brien and spending time with the quarterbacks gave me that feeling that I was looking for.”

Danny O’Brien was a big factor in Huhn’s decision

O’Brien is coaching the quarterbacks for Penn State and the 33 year old is great at connecting with recruits and building those relationships. He did just that with Huhn.

“It was a different feeling for me around coach O’Brien,” Huhn said. “I was the guy he was recruiting for 2026 and I felt so much love from him. He is young, he is loving life and I love his personality and how he carries himself.

“Coach ‘Brien is a coach I believe in and trust. He is a great coach, he knows the position and he is doing great things with Drew Allars now. I like out connection, how smart he is and I believe he can get me to where I want to be.”

The crazy ride for Huhn is over

The top quarterbacks in the 2026 class are coming off the board quickly the spring and summer before their junior seasons. Huhn tried hard not to let that impact his decision, and for the most part, it didn’t.

The No. 81 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking took his time, let things fall into place and now he couldn’t be happier.

“It has been pretty crazy the last couple of months,” Huhn said. “Guys committing had a little impact on me, but a big thing for me from the beginning was to take my time and enjoy the process. I never thought I would be in this position, so I wanted to enjoy it.

“It was never about committing early for me, but committing at the right time. Now is the right time for me. My relationship with the staff at Penn State is different. I have a super-strong relationship with coach O’Brien and I like coach Franklin a lot. That family environment fits me too. The people there accept me and I see myself thriving in the environment at Penn State.

“I want to go be a leader in this class for Penn State and recruit others to join me. It is going to be exciting.”

Huhn will be in Happy Valley this fall for his first game and he can’t wait to be there.

“When I walked into the stadium, I was in awe. They have great fans and I cannot wait to see the game-day atmosphere. The players are close, the coaches are close, it is a family and I cannot wait to get there for my first game to see all together.”
