Report: Premier League rivals set to step up their interest in £30m Leicester City 'revelation'

New Leicester City manager Steve Cooper will rightfully be concerned as a Premier League rival has intensified their interest in one of his best players.

If Steve Cooper was hoping for a quiet start to life as manager of Leicester City then he could be about to be very disappointed.

Whilst eased somewhat by the £10 million compensation payment Chelsea made to take manager Enzo Maresca, Leicester are at risk of breaching Premier League PSR.

Given the club are currently embroiled in an appeal against previous charges, they will be desperate to get their finances in order ahead of the 30th June PSR deadline which could see players leave the club over the next few days.

Now, it could be about to get worse for the Foxes, with Brighton set to step up their interest in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Brighton set to ‘reignite’ interest in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Dewsbury-Hall is widely regarded as Leicester’s best player and keeping the 25-year-old will be a huge factor in the club’s survival hopes.

However, as an academy product, any sale of the midfielder would represent pure profit in accounting terms; something that is especially significant regarding PSR.

Even without the financial concerns it would be difficult for Leicester to keep hold of Dewsbury-Hall given how impressive he was as they won the Championship title last season.

It now seems that Cooper should brace himself for a bid for a player he is likely looking to build his team around next season.

That is according to The Telegraph, who are reporting that ‘Brighton are ready to reignite a move’ for Dewsbury-Hall having initially targeted a deal in January.

A move did not materialise six months ago, but The Telegraph claim ‘the interest in him has remained into the summer window and it is understood that Brighton are prepared to step up their interest with a further move for the player who was valued at around £30 million last season’.

Leicester are in an unenviable position, with their financial woes somewhat dampening their Championship triumph.

The club are walking a financial tightrope and, even if they comply with PSR this month, will likely have little in the way of funds to spend on players to bolster their ranks ready for an expected relegation battle.

Dewsbury-Hall will be vital to their chances of survival but Leicester may not be able to afford to turn down a sizeable deal for their academy graduate.

This would be a real shame given he is a boyhood Leicester fan but more so that he provided 26 goal contributions as he dragged his club to promotion last season.

Brendan Rodgers was the manager that gave Dewsbury-Hall his break at Leicester and said of the midfielder following his first Premier Leage goal in 2022: “He is a wonderful demonstration of someone who works very hard and he has proved that if you work hard the opportunities come your way.

“It is a real joy as a coach and a manager to see a young player come through the system here over many years and then score his first goal at his home stadium in front of his home supporters that he has dreamt of doing all his life.

“What’s very important for him is to keep proving his point and he needs to find consistency. He has certainly done that since he has come into the team and he’s been a revelation for us.”

The decision-makers at Leicester have a big decision to make regarding Dewsbury-Hall, with Brighton ready and waiting to take their prized asset.
