Miami landed 5 commitments during June official visits … who could be next?

Gavin Nix Miami Hurricanes

Miami nearly doubled the size of its 2025 recruiting class with five commitments during June’s official visits, but the Hurricanes aren’t close to finished with their summer additions.

Here are three 2025 prospects who I think could could be next to commit to Miami, plus intel on two local four-star recruits I’m on the fence about.

Three-star DL Derry Norris Jr.
+++ Three of us at On3, myself included, have RPM’d Norris to Miami following a strong official visit and continued recruiting push throughout the month of June, and I’ve been encouraged by where things sit between the two sides. The Hurricanes want Norris, and Norris has developed a good relationship with Miami’s defensive coaching staff. He’s been planning to announce his decision before the start of his senior season for some time, which means a commitment could come sooner rather than later.

Four-star linebacker Gavin Nix

+++ Relationships have played a large role in Nix’s recruitment, and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson and head coach Mario Cristobal helped the Hurricanes grab palpable momentum for the No. 152 overall prospect during his June 7 official visit. He also took trips to Florida State and Oregon but has visited Miami more total times than either of the two other programs, and I like Miami’s chances the most. He dropped a top six at the beginning of the month of Miami, Florida State, Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Stanford, and I like where the Canes sit heading into a summer commitment.

Three-star EDGE Tylon Lee
+++ Miami made a move for Lee during his official visit last weekend following trips to UCF, Kansas and Arkansas. Miami’s captured his full attention, although I don’t think Hurricane fans should thumb their noses at the other three schools. Lee has high interest in Miami and that has steadily grown higher through the spring … but UCF and Kansas have long-standing relationships with the three-star pass rusher. Still, it’s hard not to like where Miami sits after this weekend, and I feel good about my decision to include him in my mock class earlier this month.

Two local Miami 4-star targets I’m on the fence about

+++ Georgia made a strong move for four-star cornerback Chris Ewald on his official visit last weekend and has made the battle very tight. Ewald initially planned to announce his decision June 27, but that date could be pushed back after the Bulldogs gave him plenty to think about. I believe there’s currently a 50-50 chance he ends up at Miami, although the Hurricanes won’t let one of their top local targets go without a fight — especially in a class prioritizing the secondary. I’ve listed him in RPMs, mock classes and “who could be next to commit” lists throughout the 2024 calendar year, but this is feeling more like a coin flip at the momenent.

+++ I no longer love my RPM for Miami Central four-star defensive tackle Randy Adirika, whose Miami recruitment has been through a few rough patches. I once thought Adirika would likely commit to Miami before the end of June, but now I’m far less certain. Penn State has been very involved in his recruitment and made a strong impression on his official visit to Happy Valley this month, although USC is in the mix too. Like Ewald, I’ve also listed Adirika in RPMs, mock classes and “who could be next to commit” lists throughout the 2024 calendar year.
