America's Got Talent judge vows to be on the show 'until the day he dies'

Howie Mandel is certainly not saying goodbye to America’s Got Talent any time soon. The judge has a “vision” to remain on the talent competition “until he dies,” as revealed on a podcast.

Having passed judgement up until America’s Got Talent season 19 so far, one judge has zero plans to leave. Most judges decide to move on and change their focus, but not Howie Mandel.

Howie Mandel talks AGT future

Howie Mandel revealed he plans to be on America’s Got Talent “until he dies”. He said on The Domenick Nati Show, “I’ve told people I’m close to, once I’m dead, I’ve decided I don’t want to do it anymore.”

He has been a judge on the NBC show since 2010, and Citytv’s Canada’s Got Talent since 2022. When Howie was offered the role, he already “loved the show,” as told to the Mislaibeled podcast.

“It’s even better being on it because when you are in the room and another human being you have no connection with has a hope and dream, and you are there, you watch a dream come true,” Mandel said.

‘Human connection’ keeps him on panel

Watching the AGT contestants’ dreams come true is what keeps Howie on the judging panel. He talked about the “human connection” he feels when a stranger shares their talent with the audience.

He said, “I just love watching people perform, it’s a problem. I am obsessive. I live on social media and I watch people doing stuff.” His average phone use is seven and a half hours a day as a result.

Howie “feels fascinated by somebody showing up and doing things and getting likes” but admits he “doesn’t get” how people are so engaged with social media content creators.

Judge ‘wants to be around’ talent

Even when someone is different to him, like a contestant, Howie “just wants to be around it”. He describes the whole show as “fascinating,” adding that the “juice of life is curiosity”.

Howie opened up about how he was thrown out of school as a kid and would “never have become a lawyer or a doctor”. However, his foray into the comedy world earned him his success.

But life wasn’t always easy for him. Although he “wasn’t given much,” Howie began his entrepreneurial talents by doing a paper round, but still says success comes from “being excited” about your craft.
