2025 Houston (Tex.) Heights offensive tackle Devinn Farris committed to SMU, he announced on Tuesday. The 6-5, 305-pounder picked the Mustangs over multiple Power Four programs.

Farris took official visits to Houston, Maryland, Mississippi State and Pitt in June before committing to the Mustangs. His SMU official visit in May sealed the deal.

“It was everything I could hope for and more. Dallas is a great city, great to be out here,” Farris told On3. “They’ve got a whole bunch of different things. All of the coaching staff and coaches, it just made everything more great.”

On3 ranks him as the No. 61 interior offensive lineman in the country and No. 157 overall prospect in Texas.

What else stood out about the visit and the SMU program?

“Probably the education, Life After Ball, and the opportunities that SMU could contribute to student-athletes,” he said. “Because student comes first before anything. They’ve got a lot of connections out here. So I’m really stoked about that.”

SMU offensive line coach Garin Justice pitched him playing all over when he arrives on the Hilltop. SMU’s coaching staff made it feel like a family environment for him and that trickles down to the recruits’ families as well.

“It’s just a lot of love,” Farris said. “It feels like family. I feel like all the coaches around here are bought in on the 2025 class. I feel like the coaches, the team staff, the recruits, and even the parents know that this class is ready to turn an already great program to a powerhouse that can compete for National Championships.

“Coach said I could play anything,” Farris added. “I know I’m very versatile. I can play tackle, guard. I can even snap the ball sometimes if I have to. Whatever coach Justice needs me to do to make sure that the team is good, I’m going to do it.”

With Farris on board, SMU now has 12 commitments in the 2025 recruiting class. He joins four-star DeSoto (Tex.) wide receiver Daylon Singleton, Daphne (Ala.) Bayside Ac three-star Duncanville (Tex.) defensive back Javion Holiday, three-star Duncanville (Tex.) safety Tyren Polley, three-star DeSoto (Tex.) safety Sael Reyes, McKinney (Tex.) defensive back Zay Gentry and three-star Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive back Elijah Pratt as Texas natives committed. Also outside of the state, SMU holds commitments from Snellville (Ga.) South Gwinnett EDGE Jalen Shivers, Daphne (Ala.) Bayside Academy tight end Miles Uter, Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.) offensive lineman Jacob Maiava and Corona (Calif.) Centennial offensive lineman Drew Hill.
