Newsmax derided over Trump chat disclaimer that it 'accepts the 2020 election results'

CNN

When former President Donald Trump joined his former strategist Corey Lewandowski for an interview on the far-right Newsmax outlet, it was hard to miss the network's legal disclaimer splashed across the chyron.

Specifically, the chyron stated, "Newsmax accepts the 2020 election results as legal and final" — a seeming acknowledgment that the network has repeatedly landed in legal trouble for promoting conspiracy theories about the 2020 results, including a massive lawsuit brought by the elections equipment company Dominion Voting Systems, and they wanted to avoid any further liability from whatever the former president might say off the cuff in the middle of the interview.

Commenters on social media noticed it too — and many were quick to mock the network.

Newsmax is far from alone in the right-wing sphere for facing legal action over promoting false election claims. Dominion also sued Fox News, who settled for almost $800 million. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell has similarly faced an avalanche of litigation for his own role in trying to claim that the election was stolen and voting machines were corrupt.

Trump, for his part, has continued to falsely claim that he won various states he did not, and has vowed to make partisan poll monitoring a key aspect of his election strategy.
