Jim Schlossnagle is bringing his top lieutenants from College Station to Austin, as former Texas A&M assistants Max Weiner, Michael Earley and Nolan Cain are official set to join the Texas staff under Schlossnagle. The Longhorns announced the staff moves late on Tuesday.

Weiner, who served as pitching coach after coming from Major League Baseball where he worked with the Mariners, is a major addition for Schlossnagle’s staff at Texas. Earley will take up the mantle of serving as hitting coach, per the graphic announcing his hire.

The hiring of Weiner, Earley and Cain also mean that Schlossnagle has brought his whole coaching staff from Texas A&M to Austin.

It was reported earlier on Tuesday that Cain, the Aggies associate head coach and a potential candidate to replace Schlossnagle, would be joining his new staff at Texas. Cain will also serve as recruiting coordinator. The other two were announced later in the day by Texas.

Cain was a part of Schlossnagle’s initial staff at Texas A&M in 2022. Prior to that, he served as coordinator of baseball operations at his alma mater, LSU, from 2013-14 before moving up to assistant coach under Paul Mainieri from 2015-21.

Cain became known for his recruiting prowess during his time at Texas A&M. But with Schlossnagle officially heading to Texas, he’ll try to continue that SEC track record as the Longhorns join the league.

Texas made the Schlossnagle move official late on Tuesday

Schlossnagle arrives on the 40 Acres after three years with the rival Aggies, a successful three years that included two trips to the College World Series in Omaha.

The last trip to Omaha, just days ago, resulted in a championship game appearance against Tennessee. Texas A&M would fall in the third and decisive game, finishing as the national runner-up.

Despite the loss, the quality of Schlossnagle’s coaching was evident. He’s one of the best in the game. And now he’s all Texas.

Schlossnagle will benefit from not being the guy to follow the legend, like former Texas coach David Pierce had to do following the retirement of legend Augie Garrido. Pierce was fired after eight seasons, despite three appearances in the College World Series and three Big 12 regular season championships.

Those are the kind of expectations Schlossnagle will face. Of course, he’s no stranger to high-level success or expectation.

Prior to his three-year stint at Texas, Schlossnagle spent 18 years at TCU, where he turned the Horned Frogs into an annual contender.

Schlossnagle reached the College World Series five times, including four straight times between 2014-17. He also won three Big 12 regular season titles while with the Horned Frogs, as well as seven Mountain West conference titles.
