Report: Everton want to buy £50m player who James Maddison says is the best one v one defender in the world

Everton were expected to endure a quiet summer, dominated largely by those they might sell rather than who they brought in.

However, just weeks into the window, and that narrative has already shifted dramatically.

Having made one signing already, and seemingly preparing to welcome in another as Everton agree a fee for Iliman Ndiaye, things are looking up at Goodison Park at last.

And, it seems they are far from finished with their revamp.

Everton want Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer

The most recent update on Everton’s latest transfer conquest comes courtesy of talkSPORT, who named the Toffees in their latest round-up of the rumours circulating.

Whilst Kevin Thelwell has been surprisingly active in the market, there are still fears over the finances he is contending with.

However, that has not stopped Aaron Wan-Bissaka from being linked, with the report reading: ‘Keep an eye out for Everton potentially making moves for a couple of Manchester United players.

‘I’m told the Toffees are one of a number of clubs interested in right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who also wanted by Galatasaray.

‘It is also understood Sean Dyche is a fan of centre-back Victor Lindelof, who is free to leave Old Trafford as United look to revamp their squad.’

Perfect for Sean Dyche’s Everton

Ever since he joined Everton, Sean Dyche’s core principles have been focused around solidity.

Seeking to ensure that his side are always hard to beat, after the season they have just enjoyed, it’s fair to say that he has accomplished that task well.

The Toffees kept the second-most clean sheets in the Premier League last season whilst also shipping the fourth-least goals too, with much of that owed to the fine structure forged for the players.

So, to add another rock-solid asset into a position that has caused some turmoil across the last year would be the final piece of the puzzle, to truly make Everton an impenetrable force.

Whilst there are reservations about his attacking prowess, just the fact that youth is on his side would make him more useful than the likes of Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young.

And, whilst Nathan Patterson remains unproven and untrusted by Dyche, Wan-Bissaka could step in and try to recapture the form that saw the Red Devils spend £50m on his services.

After all, there must be some degree of talent there, with James Maddison having previously lauded his defensive capabilities: ‘AWB is ridiculously good a 1 vs 1 defending. Probably the best in the world bar none.

‘So many wingers run out of ideas when playing directly against him.’

This certainly is one to watch.
