The Office spin-off reveals its first surprising cast members

These days, most successful TV shows are made into their universes. Thus, it should come as no surprise that there’s a spin-off of The Office on the way. After all, the fan-favourite series about a company selling paper in Pennsylvania was already a remake of the British show created by Ricky Gervais.

The strangest thing is that the idea of developing The Office universe came so late – it has been over 10 years since the show’s last episode was broadcast. But NBC is introducing a whole new generation of viewers into the mundane corporate world, and all the bizarre antics of the office environment.

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming production.

What will the plot of The Office spin-off be?

The untitled series won’t be a direct follow-up to the beloved The Office, or a reboot of the original story. It will simply be a tale about the employees of another bureau, packaged in a familiar mockumentary form.

According to NBC’s official press release, the spin-off will be set in the office of a failing newspaper:

As Lisa Katz, the president of NBC Entertainment, added:

When could The Office spin-off be released?

Probably not anytime soon. Work on the project is early, and no release date has been announced.

In the US, the series will be available on the Peacock streaming service.

On Peacock, you can already stream all episodes of the original The Office US.

There are two subscription tiers. The ad-supported tier of Peacock Premium costs $5.99 per month / $59.99 a year. Meanwhile, ad-free Peacock Premium Plus is available at $11.99 per month or $119.99 a year.

In the UK, you can watch The Office US on Netflix and on Amazon Prime Video.

Who are the cast and crew of The Office spin-off?

As of now, NBC has chosen two actors.

Domhnall Gleeson, known for films such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Revenant and Brooklyn, will appear in the series.

Sabrina Impacciatore, who fans of The White Lotus remember well as Valentina, the hotel manager from season 2, is also joining the cast.

Greg Daniels, creator of American The Office, and Michael Koman, co-writer of Nathan for You and How to with John Wilson, are working on the series.
