How are season ticket sales progressing for Purdue as Ryan Walters embarks on his second season as head football coach?
“It’s going spectacularly,” said Purdue Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Operating Officer Ken Halpin.
How good?
Purdue is close to capping season ticket sales at between 42-43,000. The last time Purdue season ticket sales surpassed 40,000? It was 2008, when Joe Tiller was entering his final season as head coach.
“I think we’ll sell out over half our games,” said Halpin. “We want to sell out all of them.”
Purdue’s three newer premium seating sections–Junction Terrace, The Railyard and The Station–also are trending to sell out.
The students also are buying in, snapping up just under 10,000 Boarding Passes–all of them–in an hour or so.
Single-game tickets will go on sale to the public on July 18.
The Boilermakers play a competitive 2024 home schedule, with the most attractive games being vs. Notre Dame, Nebraska, Oregon and Penn State. (See full home schedule below.)
“We’ve got a special, special season coming,” said Halpin. “It’s also a hard season, but we’re excited about it.”
Home schedule notes:
• Purdue holds a 6-0 all-time lead vs. FCS Indiana State, with all six games coming inside Ross-Ade Stadium. Most recently, Purdue crushed the Sycamores, 56-0, in Week Two of the 2022 season.
• This will be Notre Dame’s first trip to Ross-Ade Stadium since 2013. The in-state foes had played annually from 1946-2014. The schools last met in 2021 in South Bend, a 27-13 ND victory.
• Nebraska arrives for the Big Ten opener. This will be the 12th season in a row Nebraska and Purdue will have played. The Huskers are 6-5 in the last 11 meetings. Purdue is 3-3 vs. Nebraska in Ross-Ade Stadium since 2013. NU won, 31-14, in Lincoln in 2023.
• Oregon should be ranked in the AP preseason Top 5 in its first season as a member of the Big Ten. The Ducks have been to West Lafayette twice, winning in 2008 (32-26 in OT) and falling in 1979 (13-7). Oregon won the last meeting, a 38-36 triumph in Eugene in 2009.
• This will be the 11th season in a row Purdue will have clashed with Northwestern; NU holds an 8-3 edge in that stretch. The Boilers are just 2-6 vs. the Wildcats the last eight times they’ve hosted NU in West Lafayette. Purdue lost, 23-15, in Evanston last year with QB Hudson Card out with injury.
• Since joining the Big Ten in 1993, Penn State is 16-2 vs. Purdue with the Nittany Lions winning the last 10 encounters. The last meeting was in Ross-Ade to open the 2022 season, a 35-31 Penn State triumph on a Thursday night. Purdue last toppled the Nittany Lions in West Lafayette in 2003.
