How much money Derby County will receive once Chelsea confirm £19m Omari Kellyman transfer - journalist

The total amount Derby County could land once Omari Kellyman completes his move from Aston Villa to Chelsea.

Derby County are known for continuously churning out quality players form their academy, most notably Max Bird and Morgan Whittaker, who the Rams will play against in the Championship next season.

Will Hughes – currently a seasoned Premier League professional with over 150 appearances to his name – rose through the ranks at Derby before moving to Watford in 2017.

Rams boss Paul Warne is equally benefitting from the talent being unleashed from the youth sides, with centre-back Eiran Cashin establishing himself as a fine defender alongside midfielder Louie Sibley and Liam Thompson.

The sell-on clause in Omari Kellyman’s Aston Villa contract

Derby sold academy star Omari Kellyman for £600,000 to Aston Villa in March 2022 despite him never making a first-team appearance for the Rams.

The 18-year-old has since made six senior appearances for the Villans, including outings in the Europa Conference League and Premier League last term.

With Villa needing to sell players to comply with Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR), Unai Emery is willing to offload Kellyman to Chelsea for a reported fee of £19 million.

Fabrizio Romano claimed on Tuesday that the forward had signed all the documents and is closing in on a move while Tom Collomosse has now revealed what’s in it for Derby.

According to the Daily Mail journalist, the Rams inserted a 15% sell-on clause in the youngster’s contract, meaning if he arrives at Stamford Bridge for a reported £19 million, Derby will receive £2.85 million in return.

That is a decent sum of money for the Championship side, who will no doubt invest it into their squad.

Omari Kellyman fee will help Derby’s recruitment drive

Derby were smart enough to insert a sell-on clause into Kellyman’s contract, knowing he had the potential to become a top player.

Whilst it’s been activated earlier than they would have imagined, the 2005-born attacker can land them a significant sum by completing his move to Chelsea.

Clowes will likely hand most of that money across to Warne to help him invest in the playing squad, with the Rams boss claiming they need at least nine new signings.

A lot of work is currently going on behind the scenes and new faces through the door will be on the horizon.

With the potential money received from Kellyman’s transfer, expect Derby to be measured and meticulous with their recruitment as they attempt to avoid the drop.
