'It will depend': Leeds will only move for 'excellent' player if key duo are sold this summer - journalist

Leeds United will know more about who they need to sign this summer once the future of some key players are clarified.

The window has been open for almost two weeks now and Leeds are still yet to make their first foray into the market when it comes to incomings.

Instead, much of the focus has been on who could be on their way out of Elland Road, but again, it has also been slow in that department too.

Jack Harrison is the only player so far to have secured an exit, though Marc Roca is expected to follow imminently. In terms of members of last season’s squad, it has been quiet.

Plenty of players including Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Archie Gray have been linked with moves, but it would appear bids have not yet been lodged.

Journalist shares new update on Leeds’ interest in Liam Millar

As it stands, the only real position that stands out as needing immediate recruitment is at the back following the return of Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts to their parent clubs.

However, in other areas such as attack, there is little point in bringing players in until they know exactly who is going to be at Elland Road next term.

Leeds still have some of the best set of wide options across the entire division but are reportedly looking at FC Basel winger Liam Millar while he represents Canada at the Copa America under Jesse Marsch.

Millar is well known to Leeds following his performances across the two matches during a loan spell at Preston North End last season.

Leeds’ interest in Millar was first reported by the Athletic and now journalist Nancy Froston has shared a new update on that pursuit, suggesting it very much hinges on what happens with Summerville and Gnonto.

Speaking to the One Leeds Fan Channel, she said: “He’ll be one they are looking at but if, for example, you don’t sell Summerville or Gnonto, you don’t necessarily need to bring in a winger. We are talking in those terms where it will depend on what happens with outgoings.

“He is someone they are aware of, fits that profile of a young enough player with plenty of potential. I’d be interested to see what he does in a Leeds team vs a Preston team that did well, but had a few rough parts of the season.

“I don’t know what sort of fee they [Basel] would be after, but with a year left on his contract, I don’t think it would be colossal.”

Leeds could be left disappointed at Millar display for Canada

As mentioned, Leeds scouts are reportedly in attendance in the United States to cast a keen eye on Millar’s performances for Canada at the Copa America.

Canada were in action against Peru during the early hours of this morning and picked up a crucial 1-0 victory, though Leeds may have been left underwhelmed at Millar’s display.

The Canadian media wrote: “Liam Millar – 6/10. Playing on the right wing instead of the left wing he occupied last time out, Liam Millar wasn’t as involved as he was against Argentina.

“He completed all eight of his passes, including a cross that led to an opportunity to score, but for the most part wasn’t involved often enough in the first half to make a hugely significant impact on the match.

“Millar was subbed out at halftime as Jesse Marsch made a triple substitution, replaced by Jacob Shaffelburg.”
