Report: Club think £100k-a-week Man City player will fit their project 'like a glove', he's open to leaving

One club apparently think that a current Manchester City player would be a perfect fit for them.

City have had a slow start to the summer on the transfers front, with no major incoming or outgoings just yet.

With two big tournaments going on, this was perhaps to be expected.

For the moment, there is a lot of speculation regarding which players could be on their way out of the club. Stefan Ortega will be staying, after he signed a new contract.

But there are still question marks over the likes of Ederson, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Gomez.

There has also been a little bit of talk about Julian Alvarez – and a new report has suggested one club think he could be perfect for them.

Julian Alvarez now on Barcelona’s radar, they think he’d be a perfect fit

A few weeks ago, speculation started about Manchester City attacker Julian Alvarez.

This came as a surprise, because Alvarez finished the 2023/24 season as the City player to make the most appearances across all competitions.

But Alvarez wasn’t overly happy with the amount of actual minutes he got in the second half of the season.

Apparently, he has been open to the idea of leaving for quite a few months, and he is also understood to want to play in a warmer climate.

SPORT have reported today that Barcelona are now showing interest in the Argentina international, who is currently on duty at the Copa America.

The publication say that he is very much appreciated by Barca officials, who are ‘convinced that he would fit like a glove in the project’.

Of course, £100,000-a-week star Alvarez is not the only City player Barca are interested in. For weeks, it has been suggested they will try to land Joao Cancelo on loan again.

They have also been strongly linked with Bernardo Silva, although a recent report claimed they have admitted defeat over him for this summer.

No surprise Barca are keen

It was inevitable that Barcelona would be linked with Alvarez eventually.

Ultimately, Robert Lewandowski is 35 now and they need a long-term replacement for the Poland international.

Joao Felix is wanted back on loan, but Barcelona need someone who can be an out-and-out striker and Alvarez can be that man, even though he can also operate just off a number nine.

Barca may want him, but they will do very well to actually prise him away from City though, with the club understood to value him at around £67 million.

Barca’s financial problems have been well documented in recent times, and one would imagine some player sales would be needed for them to have a chance.
