Arsenal fans are all saying the same thing about Leandro Trossard as Belgium booed off in draw

Several Arsenal stars have struggled to make an impact at Euro 2024 so far, and attacker Leandro Trossard has had a particularly frustrating campaign.

Trossard was slammed by the Belgian press after a poor display in Belgium’s opening game, which they lost 1-0 to Slovakia, and the Arsenal attacker was dropped for their victory over Romania.

The 29-year-old returned to the starting XI for Belgium’s final group game against Ukraine, with the group finely poised. A loss could have seen his side knocked out, but a draw was enough to take them through.

Belgium played poorly and settled for the draw, which knocked Ukraine out and set up a last-16 tie with France, and their fans expressed their anger as they were booed off the pitch.

Trossard was disappointing yet again before he was withdrawn in the 62nd minute, and fans are concerned at the performance levels he has shown throughout.

Fans disappointed in Leandro Trossard performance in Belgium draw

Fans were disappointed in Trossard’s display, in which he failed to have an impact in attack, and having enjoyed a strong end to the season with Arsenal, there is some surprise that he has struggled at the tournament.

“Leandro Trossard has been one of the worst players of the tournament relative to what I expected of him. Really, really poor,” one posted on X.

“Wastes most opportunities presented to him with poor decision making I struggle to see why he is still starting,” another replied.

Some even believe he should be dropped from Belgium’s lineup again given how poorly he has played.

“There’s no way Tedesco believes Trossard is a better option than Lukebakio and Bakayoko He is a legit net negative across 90 minutes,” one fan claimed.

“Everytime Trossard is on the pitch Belgium look nowhere near as good as when he’s off it,” another pointed out.

Trossard could be in serious danger of losing his starting spot for Belgium’s last-16 clash with France. Reported Arsenal target Johan Bakayoko is in the squad and threatening to take his place, and his performances have not been up to his usual standard.

The Arsenal star has started on the wings, with his performance against Ukraine coming off the right in a fairly unfamiliar position, and even under Mikel Arteta, some of his best performances have come when starting centrally.

Arteta may be concerned with how Trossard has performed with Belgium, but if he can return to his best form next season with Arsenal, he can continue to show why he has been one of the Spaniard’s best value-for-money signings.
