‘I’d win’: Newcastle United star reckons he’d beat Man City’s Kyle Walker in a race

Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has a reputation for being one of the fastest players in the world.

During City’s Treble-winning season, the Englishman registered a top speed of 37.31 km/h, the highest in the Premier League.

Also in that season, Thierry Henry said on CBS Sports (via Goal) that due to Walker’s pace, opposition players may as well not bother taking him on in a foot race.

Despite all of that, one current Premier League star has claimed that he would do what others have failed to previously and actually outpace the City star.

Anthony Gordon says he’d back himself in a race against Kyle Walker

Appearing in a recent video shared on Goal’s TikTok channel, Anthony Gordon was asked which player in the England squad he’d be worried about facing in a race.

In response, the Newcastle United winger had this to say.

He said: “Kyle Walker. Still think I’d win, but. I’ll back myself.”

Not many players would admit to being able to beat Walker in a race

To further highlight Walker’s impressive pace, Sam Allardyce said last month that he can’t believe how fast the 34-year-old is given how he’s older than a large number of players in the Premier League at the moment.

In addition to that, Pep Guardiola said this to TNT Sports back in September when asked what makes the right-back such a special player.

He said: “I would say first of all [as] a footballer, [he] has a genetic [quality that] is incomparable, physicalities, something unique.”

With all of that on board, we feel that Gordon’s claim that he would beat Walker in a race will certainly raise some eyebrows.

However, it also shows the self-belief and confidence the winger has in himself and his own physical attributes.

Either way, a race between the two players would definitely be something worth watching.
